IDEA Committee Update

Published in the RSAA Lunations
Vol1 Issue28 1–31 May 2022

The RSAA IDEA committee has been quite busy this month, especially organizing training events.

Starting with housekeeping, our committee member Jo Ciuca will be the new point of contact with the Respectful Relationships Unit at the ANU.

The student session of Understanding and Responding to Sexual Violence Training was held in the DLT on Thursday 7th April. It was presented by the Respectful Relationships Unit. It was well attended with more than 20 students participating in the session.

The IDEA committee would like to thank everyone who has signed up for Mental Health first aid training so far. We have 8 spots left so please let us know as soon as possible if you would like to participate in the first round. This training will be very beneficial to our school, especially to those of you supervising students. In the course you will "learn about the signs and symptoms of common and disabling mental health problems in adults, how to provide initial help, where and how to get professional help, what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective, and how to provide first aid in a crisis situation.” for more information you can visit https://mhfa.com.au/courses/public/types/standardedition4 or feel free to get in touch with our committee member Bella Gerrard or the IDEA committee. Bella will be sending instructions around to our first group of participants in the next week.

The next Unconscious Bias training session will be held in June or July. The time slot will be from 10.45am to 2.45pm. Please fill in this form with your preferred date and preferred focus for the session.

Monday 30th of May is Reconciliation Day! National Reconciliation Week 2022 is running from May 27th to June 3rd . The theme of this year is “Be Brave. Make Change.”  The challenge of this year is for all Australians— individuals, families, communities, organisations and government—to Be Brave and tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation so we can Make Change for the benefit of all Australians. The RSAA IDEA committee would like to encourage the RSAA community to be brave, make change and celebrate National Reconciliation Week 2022!
