Sustainability Update

Hello everyone! It’s now been a full month since Phil has moved on from the Sustainability Committee. I put my hand up to chair the committee but it will take some time to get up to speed and match the incredible work he was doing. As hinted in the last article back in April, the Sustainability Committee is now comprised of Ingrid McCarthy, James Beattie, Gillian Altham, Tony Travouillon, Isabella Gerrard and yours, Gaston Gausachs. The various sustainability schemes at MSO are still in place but you may have noticed less buzz as we adjust to Phil’s departure.
The most popular scheme is probably the food waste bins in kitchens. At the moment, committee members are responsible to empty the bins into the compost at the end of each week or whenever they are full; the QR code is an easy way to ping our e-mail and let us know when this happens. While having a roster of people responsible for this simple task is convenient for everyone else I will be suggesting to the committee, that anyone could take care of emptying a bin and enjoy a short walk to our community garden along the way.
The garden was completed last month after a concerted effort by the Sustainability Committee, MSO volunteers and the special and dedicated help from Henry Zovaro. He remains the main point of contact if you have any questions about it. Everyone is welcome to visit the garden; you will find it is not very green at this time but we are expecting this to change as the soon to be planted first batch of winter crop springs into life later in the year.
As we move into the cold winter season please be thoughtful of the environment by ensuring windows and doors are closing properly. At home or at work, this will also go towards keeping the energy bills in check especially as prices are set to increase in the next period.
The Sustainability Committee welcomes ideas and feedback that can help MSO make a contribution towards a better environment. Please reach out!
