IDEA Committee Update
Published in the RSAA Lunations
Vol1 Issue33 1–31 October 2022
It is time to take stock of some of the activities initiated by the IDEA committee over the last few months.
The Demographic Survey has shown that while gaps exist in certain areas at RSAA, we also have reasons to celebrate. We host significant cultural and linguistic diversity, and a high percentage of people who have undergone Ally and Unconscious Bias training. All of this bodes well for the development of the Equitable Hiring Strategy which is currently being drafted and aims to increase under represented groups within the School. A one-day workshop will be held at RSAA to discuss ways of extending the strategy across CoS.
The analysis of the Culture Survey has also been completed and results will be presented to all members of the School in a series of workshops organised by Leaderskill during October and November. We will let you know the dates as soon as those are finalised.
We have now concluded the series of workshops on Unconscious Bias at RSAA, with one more session to be held at SSO on Nov 1st. Thanks to all of you who have participated.
We are also working to deliver an in-person, Mental Health First Aid session. World Mental Health Day will be held on 10 October; please check here for the wellbeing program organised by the ANU for this occasion.
On 11 October, the ANU Respectful Relationship Unit will launch the Sexual Violence Prevention Toolkit: please register here to learn about how the Toolkit can support your local area with cultural change and the prevention of sexual violence.
On 18 November, the ANU will host the first annual Women* in Physics Gala. The event is co-sponsored by our School, and open to all of those who identify as women in RSPhy and RSAA at the ANU, including academics, professional staff, PhD and Master's students. The event is also open to 3rd and 4th year undergraduates. It is an unrivalled opportunity to network with peers in an afternoon filled with insightful seminars, interactive sessions, a poster competition and a job fair. If you are interested in attending, please register here by October 18th.
