Project updates:

Elevate SSO Project:  Siding Spring Observatory was recently awarded funding by the NSW Government in the Regional Tourism Activation Fund Round 2 to upgrade the facilities at SSO, enhance the visitor experience and draw more tourists to the Warrumbungle region. The upgrades will include construction of an Exploratory Deck outside the Visitor Centre with views over the valley, an astro-themed children’s playground with universal access and an upgrade of current exploratory content and information displays.

We have set up an advisory board that comprises of representatives from NSW National Park and Wildlife Services, ANU Facilities and Services, Coonabarabran Stargazing Café, Warrumbungle Shire Council, SSO and MSO staff. Currently, we are looking into getting quotes from suppliers for the playground installation as well as  reaching out to architects for designing of the deck and toilets accessibility upgrades. We will keep you posted on the progress of this exciting project.

Re-activation of the MSO Visitor Centre and Cafe: The re-opening of the MSO Visitor Centre is slowly but surely progressing. We are currently working on a business plan with our potential partner, and hoping to update you soon on the timeline of the re-opening, hopefully before end of this year. So watch this space!

Thank you

Sindu Nair
