Outreach Update

The long dark nights of May have luckily been pretty clear (and cold!) However it has meant we’ve been able to host lots of outreach events!

With a school group nearly every day of the week, we had about 700 students in May from the ACT, NSW, QLD, VIC, and WA.

We have also hosted many private nights.  Every month, we are getting more and more requests with most of these coming from interstate groups.  Stargazing at Mt Stromlo is turning into a popular attraction for visitors to Canberra!

On 26 May we resumed our Public Astronomy Nights. With at least 1200 attending, it was a great clear night with lots of people.  Thanks to everyone who helped!  We also had about 200 people for a stargazing event in front Parliament House for Reconciliation Week.

Our next Public night is on 23 June (followed by 21 July, 18 August, and 22 September).  If people are keen to help out - on telescopes, giving a talk, or crowd guiding, let me know! In early July, we will be running school holiday programs - so be on the look out for those!

Work is progressing with Mulligans Flat and Wildbark.  In June, they will start taking over some operations and in the not too distant future, will start offering catering for events at Stromlo!
