IDEA Committee Update

As you already know by now, RSAA has been awarded the Silver recognition at the Pleiades Awards. This achievement is a testament to the efforts demonstrated by our community over the past two years, and the IDEA committee would like to thank each and every one of you who contributed to this success.

As we celebrate this milestone, it is crucial that we maintain our focus on proposing new initiatives and delivering tangible results for the future, as we continue our journey towards attaining Gold level recognition. We would also like to point out that the ANU 2022-2023 Workplace Gender Equality Report is now available here for comment, and provides a broad overview of policies and strategies in relation to gender equality, flexible work and employee support.

Between late August and November, we have arranged for the ANU Respectful Relationships Unit to conduct two important training sessions. The first one will focus on Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment (SASH), equipping our community with vital knowledge and skills to create a safe and respectful environment for everyone. The second session will be an Ally training, empowering us to foster an inclusive atmosphere where all individuals feel valued and supported.

We are also excited to provide an update on the implementation of the student buddy system, with a 1:1 ratio that connects PhD students with Honours and Masters students. This initiative aims to foster a strong sense of community and provide support among our student body.

Furthermore, we are thrilled to share that RSAA has committed to hosting a community event in November, as part of the broader College-level initiative. These events present wonderful opportunities for us to come together, celebrate our diverse community, and strengthen our bonds. We are delighted to witness the resurgence of these community gatherings, which serve as a testament to the positive social culture within our School. They remind us that together, we can create a truly inclusive and thriving community at RSAA.
