Outreach Update
Published in the RSAA Lunations
Vol1 Issue45 1–31 October 2023
We had another busy month of school visits. We hosted 20 schools who brought just over 900 students. The waiting list is getting very long for school visits (we have nights on the waiting lists in 2025!). To meet this need, in October, we will start running school and outreach programs at Mulligans Flat as well as Lanyon Homestead. Both places are surprisingly dark, being on the edges of Canberra. In addition, they can bring other aspects to our outreach programs (environmental aspects at Mulligans and historical for Lanyon Homestead).
We had our final public night of the year in September. The weather was perfect, and we had well over 1500 people in attendance. It was great to have our public nights again this year, and most of them had great weather, with about 7500 people attending these for the year. Thanks to everyone who helped make them possible - from operating telescopes, giving talks, people moving, and more.
We will run them again next year with the dates already set for 2024:
19 April
10 May
14 June
12 July
9 August
6 September
And as always, private nights increase in popularity every month, with the requests increasing.
The rest of the year will be a focus on new events, and our partnership with Mulligans Flat with many exciting things in the works!
