Outreach Update

Outreach hasn’t slowed down despite it being close to the end of the year!

Once again, we had 20 school groups for astronomy and outreach visits.  Two of these were offsite in our first trial.  This month, we will host our first school sessions at Lanyon Homestead.

The mostly clear skies this month has meant that despite late starts, we’ve been able to fit lots of private groups in for sessions.  We had about 80 requests alone during the school holiday period at the beginning of the month!

With the ANU China Centre, we opened an astronomy exhibit based on astronomy and space research done at ANU at the Australia Consulate-General in Shanghai.  Brad Tucker remotely opened the exhibition, along with the Australian Consul-General and Mr. Ni Minjing, Head of the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, Natural History Museum, Astronomy Museum (pictured). The exhibit is already seeing 500 visitors per day, and after two months, will be moved to Beijing and the Australian Embassy. This is part of a larger engagement with the Shanghai Astronomical Museum that will soon see a permanent display in it, with a live stream of the Milky Way from Mt Stromlo.

The Public Astronomy Night dates for 2024 are already set:
19 April
10 May
14 June
12 July
9 August
6 September

And mark it in your calendar - the first Mt Stromlo Open Day since 2011 will be Saturday 7 September.
