The week before last I attended the ASTRO 3D legacy science meeting. This was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the scientific and cultural legacy of ASTRO 3D. ASTRO 3D was the vision of Lisa Kewley, and as lead node, the School should be proud of its achievements.

The web site and registration page for the Mount Stromlo 100th Anniversary Symposium are now live. Please mark the date of 18 September to join us for the Symposium at the Shine Dome, followed by a Gala Dinner at the Hyatt Canberra which is also celebrating its 100th Anniversary. All Stromlites are welcome and encouraged to attend. This month includes the next event in our public lecture series by Matthew Colless titled  Mount Stromlo 100th - Telescopes: 100 years of evolving technology and advancing discovery. All are welcome to attend.

As part of the online first ASA, there will be a hub day on Wednesday 26 June with two hybrid scientific sessions from 11am-12:30, and 13:30 - 3pm. The annual ASA prize talks will take place during these session, and will include presentations from RSAA. We have booked the DLT for these sessions, and invite all to attend.

Last month the Australian Academy of Science announced its 2024 Fellows for outstanding contributions to Science. Among those elected was our own Professor Mark Krumkolz. Fellows of the Academy of Science are among the Nation’s most distinguished scientists, elected by their peers for ground-breaking research and contributions that have had clear impact.  I know the School joins me in congratulating Mark on this well-deserved recognition.

Following the interviews and recruitment process conducted earlier this year I am delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Melanie Kaasinen to the RSAA faculty. Melanie is currently an ESO fellow working in Garching and will join us in early 2025 at the conclusion of her fellowship.

Please read on to learn about activities in what has been another busy month right across RSAA.
