Outreach Update

Despite the disruptions of COVID-19, we still have lots of outreach in the works!

In the next few weeks we will begin offering regular online talks and demos on Facebook to kids and families at home. These will be suitable for a range of ages and include plenty of time for audience questions.

Our public nights will also be going virtual. Our nights on 1 May, 29 May, 26 June, and 17 July will be online, talks as well as stargazing. Currently we plan for the nights on 21 August and 25 September to be in person.

We are also continuing our Sunday Space with the Canberra Times.

On 8 March, for International Woman’s Day, former PhD student Rajika Kuruwita wrote about some of the great women astronomers: https://www.canberratimes.com.au/story/6662458/wonder-women-of-space-acknowledged-on-international-womens-day/

Jonah Hansen talked about the announcement surrounding WASP-76b https://www.canberratimes.com.au/story/6674783/exotic-exoplanets-and-their-rains-of-terror/?cs=14329

Adam Rains then explained interferometry: https://www.canberratimes.com.au/story/6672244/what-to-do-when-one-telescope-just-isnt-good-enough/ and stellar spectroscopy: https://www.canberratimes.com.au/story/6701313/the-secrets-of-the-stars-hidden-in-their-rainbows/ in back-to-back weeks.

If you’d like to be involved in any outreach, including public night talks, please email us! outreach@mso.anu.edu.au
