Outreach Update
Published in the RSAA Lunations
Vol1 Issue4 1–31 May 2020
Outreach is looking a little different lately but we’re still doing plenty of it!
We’ve been busy doing talks on Facebook Live for students, teachers, families, and even some adults! The first lot of these talks (listed below) can be found on our Facebook page in the “Astronomy at Home” playlist.
Brad Tucker: “The Sun, Earth, and Moon”
Eloise Birchall: “Where do Stars, Planets and Moons Come From?”
Brad Tucker: “The Solar System”
Alex Wallace: “Fantastic Planets and How to Find Them”
Ayan Acharyya: “When the Universe Was a Baby”
Brad Tucker: “All About Black Holes”
Rajsekhar Mohapatra: “Turbulence: From Your Hot Chocolate to Big Galaxies”
You can also find recordings of the talks on the RSAA website.
We have also just had our first (virtual) public astronomy night for 2020 on Friday 1 May. Alex Wallace’s talk was about “How to See Pieces of Halley's Comet [This!] Week” and Katie Grasha’s talk was the "The Hubble Space Telescope Celebrates 30 Fantastic Years!" You can also find a recording of these talks on our Facebook page, in our “Public Astronomy Nights” playlist.
We are also continuing our Sunday Space with the Canberra Times.
On April 5th, Brad explained what a “Supermoon" actually is, and why people should check it out.
On April 12th, Alex Wallace dived into the latest techniques in finding exoplanets.
Brad also covered the impacts from COVID-19 on astronomy and space.
