We have continued doing talks on Facebook Live for students, teachers, families, and adults. You can find recordings of our latest talks (listed below) on our Facebook page in the “Astronomy at Home” playlist.

Adam Rains: “Interferometry: When One Telescope Just Isn't Good Enough”

Brad Tucker: “The Future of Space”

Georgie Taylor: “The Biggest Explosions in the Universe!”

Jonah Hansen: “The Lifecycle of Stars and their Enormous Sizes”

Katelyn Tsipiras: “Making Hydrogen at Home”

Wei Shen Oh: “Introduction to Amateur Astronomy (Tools of the Trade)”

Geoff Bonning: “The Geology of Pluto”

Brad Tucker: “Exploding Stars, Dark Energy, and the End of the Universe”

You can also find recordings of the talks on the RSAA website.

We have now done two successful virtual public astronomy nights! At our latest public night, former PhD student Ryan Ridden-Harper talked about “Eclipses and Shadows in Space” and Marta Yebra from Fenner and InSpace talked about “Helping Bushfire Planning Efforts From Space”. Brad even managed to do a little virtual stargazing! You can find a recording here.

We are also continuing our Sunday Space with the Canberra Times.

On May 10th, Adam Rains talked about how, despite COVID-19, science goes on and there are plenty of ways you can get involved.

On May 17th, Tony Travouillon discussed the benefits of doing astronomy in Antarctica.

On May 24th, former outreach intern Lachlan Reichstein explained how binary star systems are more the rule than the exception in the Universe.

On June 7th, Lachlan also explained the different types of rocket fuels.

On May 31st, Brad Tucker discussed how the SpaceX launch is the beginning of a new era of human space flight.
