Outreach Update

In exciting outreach news, on Wednesday and Thursday this week we are hosting Space School – our first in-person outreach since March!
Just in time for World Space Week, kids in years 3-6 can learn to drive a car on the Moon, find out the difference between a quake on Earth and one on Mars, build and launch their own rockets, and more! (And if you come down to the Visitor Centre at 11:45am on Wednesday and Thursday, you might be able to build and launch your own rocket too.)
StarFest, Siding Spring Observatory’s (virtual) open day, was also on this past Friday and Saturday. You can see Chris Lidman’s update for more information on events.
At our final (virtual) public night of the year on 25 September, Brad gave a talk on “Explosions and Collisions in Space”, followed by Prof Naomi McClure Griffith who talked about “Getting to Know the Neighbours: the Magellanic Clouds”. You can watch a recording of the public night here.
We are also continuing our Sunday Space with the Canberra Times:
6 September - Brad talked about the latest discovery of what happens when black holes merge
20 September - Jonah Hansen talked about a hot topic to most of us: Starlink and its effect on the night sky
27 September - RSES PhD Student Geoff Bonning talked about meteors and the latest fireball over Canberra
If you’d like to be involved in any outreach, such as giving a talk on Facebook Live or writing an article for Sunday Space, please email outreach@mso.anu.edu.au
