Sustainability Committee

I'm very pleased to start this month's Sustainability Committee update with a big thank you to everyone in Duffield who has been using the new recycling bin we set up just over a month ago. The take up has exceeded my most optimistic expectations! In particular, pens, toothbrushes & toothpaste tubes, and disposable coffee cups have been left to be recycled in large numbers, and we can all be proud of how much has been saved from landfill. In fact, it's gone so well, we've set up another recycling station in the Woolley Building on the top floor. Please get in touch if there's somewhere in your building an extra recycling station would be useful.

You can also now drop off clean glass jars with lids. Bella Gerrard is collecting these for use by the food co-op on campus.

Plans for the community garden (in collaboration with the Mental Health working group) are well under way. We expect to make a start in the next few weeks, so keep an eye on your emails for ways you may be able to help!

The use of food waste bins in every kitchen continues to increase towards pre-shutdown levels, and Woolley residents have recently started using theirs at a measurable rate! Duffield remains out in the lead, but Possum Hall has been speeding up in the last few weeks - it seems they won't be going down without a fight!

Finally, we note that Denise Castle has stepped down from the committee; we're very grateful for her contributions over the last year. Bella Gerrard has joined the committee in her place.

We also thank Rafat and Matthew for approving the installation of solar panels at RSAA.
