School Manager's Report

Published in the RSAA Lunations
Vol1 Issue14 1–31 March 2021

As we complete the RSAA change management, which has been hard on everyone, our focus will now shift to maintaining critical services and growing our revenue. The Director of RSAA, in his report in this newsletter, has highlighted key initiatives that we are deploying to increase the revenue of RSAA, the College of Science, and the ANU. The administration team has been tasked to ensure underlying services are maintained, working with all members of the School to achieve the overall strategic intent, as well as being active participants in the initiatives. My team and I look forward to working with all of you to assist you, as an individual, group, team, or a department/portfolio, to succeed. I am confident that, working together, we will be able to achieve the new growth agenda.

We are also embarking on business process improvements, to ensure that services are provided as efficiently and effectively as possible. With fewer FTE to provide similar services, we must adapt and innovate within ANU guidelines to ensure business service continuity. We are currently working on a Pulse module to induct our staff at Stromlo. This will assist supervisors with the Tier 2 Induction as specified in the WHSMS handbook. We are also looking into innovative ways by which we can engage with external and internal stakeholders and embarking on various endowment campaigns. More generally, we are looking into using our existing infrastructure to bring in external revenue. This may come in the form of rent, contributions, HERDC income,  or overheads. This revenue will be part of the growth agenda announced by Matthew.

Lastly, we are among the first Schools to have an active plan to ensure that we become carbon neutral before 2025. The installation of the solar panels is a small step towards this, and will assist the ANU’s Below Zero climate sustainability strategy as well as reducing our utilities bill for coming years. If you have any innovative ideas in this category, please feel free to contact me or the Sustainability Committee.
