In the last few weeks we reached another milestone in our food waste reduction scheme. We have now saved enough organic waste from landfill at RSAA to prevent over 1 ton of carbon emissions! Not only this, but I estimate people are bringing in around 20-30 kg of food waste from home for composting each week, corresponding to preventing a ton of carbon emissions every couple of months! This is a fantastic result, and should mean we have lots of compost for the community garden.

Materials for the community garden will be ordered soon, and you should start to see big changes over the next month or so. Watch this space...

Our other big initiative -- the extra TerraCycle recycling boxes -- have not been so fervently embraced. I'm optimistic that people are collecting things at home though, rather than bringing things in in dribs and drabs. A reminder about the many, many things that can be dropped off for reuse and recycling can be found here

As always, if you have any questions or comments, feel free to get in touch at sustainability@mso.anu.edu.au.
