Sustainability Committee News

I'm pleased to report that work on the community garden will begin in earnest soon! We've taken delivery of the raised garden beds, with soil and plants soon to follow. Hopefully by next month's update I'll be inviting everyone to come for a tour!

Conveniently, the first batch of Stromlo compost has been seived and is ready for use in the community garden! There's only a few wheelbarrow loads though - I'm always amazed just how much stuff breaks down!

At the other end of the composting process, MSO is diverting more food and organic waste than ever from ending up in landfill each week. Possum Hall has taken back the lead from Duffield, and is set to reach 100kg on its own in the next few weeks, while the school as a whole sits just below 250kg. There continues to be lots of people bringing in food & organic waste from home too, though I would ask that people double check the small list of ~forbidden items~ on the website

Use of the extra recycling bins continues to be patchy, but generally increasing. As a reminder, the full, extensive list of what can go in them can be found here

Finally, a plug for my upcoming Feast of Facts (my third!) on the 13 August-- Sustainability Myths and Misconceptions.
