Congratulations

Prof Dan Shaddock (DQS) on being awarded the G’Day USA Award for Innovation; ANU innovation was on stage also with Tom Wood, ANU alumnus and CEO of company Nexus Water receiving the G’Day USA Emerging Innovator Award.

A/Prof Shannon Notley (AM) received a 2016 TechConnect Innovation Award, for 'Graphene and 2D materials production and applications’.

Our LIGO team win, win, win

Yesterday I congratulated the team for their sharing of the Breakthrough Prize, but I missed another remarkable award, the Gruber Foundation Cosmology Prize!!  The 2016 Prize has just honoured Ronald Drever, Kip Thorne, Rainer Weiss, and the entire Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) discovery team for the first observation of gravitational waves. 

And, to top it all off for an award winning week was a winning performance by Susan, Daniel and Robert last night in front of an enthusiastic audience of 800 at Llewellyn Hall.

Well done to all the DQS staff involved in this landmark discovery.

Supervisor training course

ANU HDR supervisors have the opportunity to take up the following professional development activities offered by the research training team in the office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research and Research Training) and you are encouraged to attend if you can.  The professional development being offered is specific to your needs as a supervisor of HDR students. Come along and learn from experienced peers and share your own knowledge of supervision.  This is also an opportunity to build collegial networks across the ANU.

Performance and Development Supervisor Familiarisation Sessions : May 2016

In September 2015 the University introduced a new on-line Performance Development Review (PDR) form for both Academic and Professional staff to replace the existing paper based process.   

This process has automated the workflow and is supported by data integration with a number of our key systems including ANU Insight (Statement of Academic Activity) and the Human Resources Management System (HRMS).

Male speakers boycott all-male panels to protest lack of female representation

From the RSPE Equity and Diversity Committee

Five of Australia's most booked male conference speakers will boycott panels that don't include women, criticising organisers for taking the lazy way out by opting for "dude fests". Last week, the international payments company PayPal was attacked for organising an all-male panel to discuss "gender equality and inclusion in the workplace".
