Australian Institute of Management (AIM) Staff Training

The University currently has a limited number of training vouchers with the Australian Institute of Management (AIM) available for ANU staff members to utilise during 2016.

If you or your staff are interested in one of the current AIM programs I encourage you to make use of the available training vouchers and corporate membership. The training vouchers will provide a discount of up to 25% off AIM short courses and open program courses until exhausted.

The Three Minute Thesis is an international competition for higher degree research students to showcase their research. Students have to talk about what their research is and why it is important in plain language for three minutes, with only a single PowerPoint slide. The winner of the ANU 3MT final will go on to compete in the Asia Pacific final, held at the University of Queensland on 30th of September.

Professor Michael Shats will be on annual leave 30 May - 24 June 2016. A/Prof Matthew Hole will acting HOD during this period.

Prof Christine Charles will be away 17 May - 2 July 2016 giving plenary lectures and invited talks at APCPST 2016 in Shanghai, SFP 2016 in Nancy and ICPP in Taiwan and working with collaborators at University College London and French Universities.

Laser Physics Centre (LPC)
Dr Stephen Gibson and Ben Laws (PhD student) will be away 13-28 June attending the International Symposium on Molecular Spectroscopy, Champaign-Urbana IL, USA, June 20-24, with pre-conference collaborative research visits to Yale, MIT, Wellesley College, and post-conference, UC Berkeley.

Nonlinear Physics Centre (NLPC)
Ms Kathy Hicks will be on annual leave 20 June - 15 July 2016. Ms Gaye Carney will be acting DA NLPC 20 June - 8 July, with Ms Julie Arnold assisting with urgent enquiries 11-15 July.

Plasma Research Laboratory (PRL)
Prof John Howard will be away 2-28 June 2016.  A/Prof James Sullivan will be acting HoD 6-28 June.

'Privilege is invisible to those who have it': engaging men in workplace equality

Too many men see ‘gender’ as synonymous with ‘women’ and this lack of interest is preventing workplace equality, says Prof Michael Kimmel. 

Turn up to any meeting on gender equality and the room will be full of women. Women talking to women about women.
