The Staff Excellence Awards are an annual celebration to honour staff across the ANU who demonstrate excellence in achievement and contributions that advance the University's strategic goals.

This is an opportunity for you to nominate another staff member, a team or yourself for outstanding contributions to the University and for these achievements to be formally recognised.

Call for nominations/applications: CMBE/CPMS Excellence in Education Awards

The ANU Colleges of Science offer annual awards, citations and special commendations for excellence in education. All CMBE/CPMS staff involved in teaching or supporting learning are encouraged to apply on the basis of:

  • sustained teaching quality, including supervision or tutoring; 
  • successful innovation in any aspect of education; and/or
  • other contributions to educational excellence in teaching or learning support, at the level of course, program, School or College.

HDR Travel Grants.  A reminder to all supervisors: please ensure your HDR students are aware of the VC’s HDR Travel Grants ($1,500 to $5,000).  92 Grants have been awarded so far this year.

47th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO)

The 47th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) was recently hosted by Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The competition took place in Zurich from the 11th until the 18th of July and involved more than six hundred students and leaders from over ninety countries.

Director's Colloquium Prof Rob McLaughlin

The August RSPE Directors Colloquium on “Needle Probes: Bringing optics deep inside the body” was delivered by Prof Robert McLaughlin. He provided a fascinating background of optical imaging techniques and how they have the potential to acquire high-resolution images of tissue and provide a new generation of intra-operative guidance tools for surgeons.

Co-lab: Science Meets Street Art 2016

As part of Science in ACTion at the Kingston Bus Depot on 13 August, several students from ANU are collaborating with local street artists to produce murals inspired by their science. Several students from RSPE will be participating so please come and support them whilst checking out the other science week activities at the venue.
