Director's Message
Dear Colleagues,
Market Day was simply fantastic! I was so pleased to see our RSAA and RSES colleagues help pull in the crowds. The venue had a great vibe and my thanks go to all poster presenters. Above is a rare photo of Liz Micallef and Laura Walmsley actually sitting down! At so many of these functions their supreme efforts are always greatly appreciated and we all know how much they do in the background, as well as on the day. Thanks go to the three Honours students Felicity Lee, Declan Pratt and Edward Smith Roberts for their excellent assistance. Masters of the Demo, Andrew Papworth and John Debs are gratefully acknowledged for providing the hands-on entertainment. While there are many Champions of Market Day I’d like to acknowledge sustained efforts from Jodie Bradby, Cormac Corr, Martin Conway, Patrick Kluth, James Sullivan and Matt Thompson.
Today you’ll see an email from James Irwin, our School IT Manager. It details the serious assault suffered by our School servers last weekend. My heartfelt thanks go to James and his team who have worked so hard to recover our system. Assessment of the attack is underway and will necessarily lead to some School-wide discussion on improving our resilience to these ever more frequent attacks.
Today is the last day of the College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, next week we’re in the College of Science.
Stay warm this weekend.
