Dear Colleagues,

This week there are some special highlights in Physics to report.

• Congratulations to Daniel Leykam – formerly of the Nonlinear Physics Centre – for winning the 2017 Australian Institute of Physics Bragg Gold Medal for his thesis titled, “Wave and spectral singularities in photonic lattices”.  Well done Daniel – and best of luck for the future in your new position at the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.
  
  
• The Physics Makerspace also featured prominently in the news this week, having played a key role in designing and producing the newly unveiled Australian of the Year trophies (see Stuart Hays' photo above).  Congratulations to John Debs, Ella Sayers and the team.

And finally a reminder about two events coming up: 

• The Energy Change Institute Open Day on Monday 30th in the Science Teaching Building 136 from 09.00 – 14.00:

• Plus the final Grand Challenges public pitches 5:30-7:30, 31 October 2017, with all three finalists featuring a contribution from Physics research.
