Director's Message

Good morning all,

The College of Science has sent a delegation of directors and others to India, for the period 9-21 April, to develop student exchange and recruitment opportunities and Steve Eggins has gone as part of the delegation to investigate possible opportunities for RSES. He will return in time for our next retreat, scheduled for 23 April 2018.

I will be Acting Director for the next two weeks while he is gone.

ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes

The ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes (CLEX) workshop on the Scientific Paper Writing hold on 4-6 April at the DA Brown Lecture theatre. CLEX and RSES HDR students were attending. The workshop was facilitated by Peter Rothlisberg (CSIRO) and co-facilitated by Associate Professor Nerilie Abram (RSES) and Dr Melissa Hart (CLEX Graduate Director).

 

ANZIC LEGACY FUNDING ROUND 2018

SPECIAL FUNDING FOR AUSTRALIAN BASED RESEARCHERS FOR ANALYTICAL WORK ON OCEAN DRILLING MATERIAL

ANZIC Governing Council wishes to encourage our scientists to work on legacy ocean drilling material, in order to fill gaps in existing research, and increase the number and quality of ANZIC publications within the life of IODP. We offer a funding package to non-shipboard researchers to carry out analytical work on shipboard data/samples from DSDP, ODP and IODP.

The Inaugural Research Capabilities Expo where research support and service facilities will be showcasing their expertise and capabilities available to researchers at ANU, external Universities and commercial clients.

 All researchers, students and staff are welcome to attend and learn about the wide range of expertise and capabilities that research support and service facilities have to offer at ANU. We are very much looking forward to welcome you on the day.

Funding Opportunities:

 Subject: NSW Government Water Pilot Technology Program - Opening of competitive round

Application Dates: The deadline for submissions is 9:00am Monday 23 April 2018 (Sydney local time).

Summary: Guidelines attached. This scheme provides grants to develop and pilot new technologies to assist with water regulation and ensure compliance and better protection of environmental water in the state’s river systems. The Water Pilot Technology Program is providing a total grant pool of A$500,000, with up to A$150,000 awarded to each successful applicant. Proposals could include: remote sensing technologies for measuring, monitoring and modelling water diversion, water storage and water use at a farm scale, overbank and end-of-system flow; and innovations that build on existing systems to improve data gathering, public reporting and assessing the risks of noncompliance. When fully scaled, the technology must offer ‘value for money’ for all users. >>>read more
