Director's Message
Dear Colleagues,
Finally, it’s clear that Autumn is with us. Hope you had a refreshing weekend.
It’s a busy week of networking and I draw your attention to the three main events detailed below; the Autumn lunch for Women Physics at ANU today, and on Wednesday the PhB Student-Mentor lunch and the inaugural Research Capabilities Expo. I would also like to point out the EoI for the Communication and Engagement Fellows Program. If you know someone who would benefit from this program please encourage them to apply.
The 2018 promotion round opens tomorrow (see below) and I remind you that the School makes external coaching available for those seeking additional help in their preparation for promotion. Please contact me or Sue if you are interested, there are several coaches available. I am also happy to meet with anyone considering promotion this year.
It is my pleasure to congratulate Associate Professor Cédric Simenel as the new Head of Theoretical Physics. I was heartened to see so many strong applications for this position, and I again thank the four applicants for their interest. I am very grateful to Professor Murray Batchelor for his contributions as Head over this past year and I have enjoyed working with him. Murray will remain in the role until the end of May. At that time Cédric will move substantively into Theoretical Physics, retaining a joint position with Nuclear Physics. [In case you haven’t seen, Murray will give a public lecture for MSI that mixes maths with palaeontology on Thursday night, see details below.]
Have a great week, see you at the Director’s Colloquium after lunch.
