Director's Message
Dear Colleagues,
Wonderful news for one of our 2016 PhB physics honours graduates and Tillyard Prize winner, Siobhan Tobin, who has been awarded a 2019 Rhodes Scholarship. Siobhan has contributed extensively for many years to the Australian Physics Olympiad and currently works at ANSTO. This is a prestigious award and one of only a few held by our graduates.
Congratulations to the organisers and contributors of the second MAGIC (“Mentoring and Guidance in Careers”) workshop. This 5 day program invites women and gender diverse early career researchers with a PhD in mathematical or physical sciences to participate in a variety of sessions lead by key figures in our university, government and industry sectors. This unique program has become extremely popular in a very short time. My thanks go to the hard work of the organising committee, Prof Nanda Dasgupta (Nuclear Physics), Nalini Joshi (USyd), Merryn McKinnon (CPAS), Dr Dinh Tran, Dr Kaitlin Cook, Ms Lauren Bezzina, Ms Lucia Lu, Ms Petra Rickman and Ms Stephanie Swanson. The image above shows the recent participants at University House last week. Thanks also go to the supportors; AAS, USyd, ANU, FLEET CoE, the Royal Society and the Theo Murphy Initiative.
Have a great week,
Tim |
