Director's Message
Dear Colleagues,
Please join me and congratulate Dr Andrew Kingston (Applied Maths) for winning the “Outstanding Partnership of the Year” award from ACT Education. The image above shows Minister for Education and Early Childhood Development, Ms Yvette Berry MLA (left), Andrew and the ACT Education Directorate Director-General, Natalie Howson last Thursday at the awards ceremony. Kids Hope is a mentoring program aimed at developing emotional and social resilience in children, thereby enhancing their capacity to learn. Andrew has been coordinating this program at Isabella Plains Early Childhood School and C3 Monash since 2010 with more than 25 children mentored, and many for over several years each. The team of mentors make a difference to children with each visit - spending time together guided by the child's needs and interests be that solar robots, Lego launchers, or teddy habitats. This gives mentors time to chat with the child, helping to build confidence and resilience. The mentors also build relationships with families. Kids Hope has become an integral school community partnership.
I am delighted to let you know that Chathura Bandutunga, our John Carver Prize winner this year, was awarded the Australian Institute of Physics Postgraduate Presentation for 2018 for his talk on "Encoding Light: Digital Interferometry for High Precision Optical Metrology". Chathura received the 2018 Crystal Postgraduate figurine, and a $500 award from the Australian Institute of Physics (shown below).
With the ARC results hopefully due out any day now the College Research Office is starting to plan for the next round. In the next few days guidelines for the upcoming round, including a schedule for peer review and compliance checking will come out on a School-wide email. Please note the opportunity to reduce the excessive checking the Costing and Pricing Tool requires for those who submit a 1-page summary of their proposal ahead of the game. The aim is to help you focus on the important task of writing and validating your application.
Have a great week and keep your fingers crossed that the ARC results come soon.
