Acting Director's Message
Dear Colleagues
Welcome to the 100th Event Horizon!!
Congratulations to our Honours and HDR graduands who walked across the stage at the ANU Graduation Ceremony on December 11 and 13 respectively. Indeed this was a record year for RSPE PhD graduations - 17 in total, with 12 of them graduating on the day.
Next, we should mention that Patrick Kluth will be nominating for a position on the ANU Council – the ballots for which will be held in January. It would be good if we can have another physics representative on this important part of the ANU governance structure.
Finally, this was a big year for ARC Discovery Project success, with 14 grants awarded in the School – a 41% success rate compared to 28% for the University, and 22% nationally.
To ensure that we continue to submit high quality applications, the School and the College will be offering again this year an in-house “peer review” process running in parallel. The School will look at your draft proposals from an expert reviewer perspective, whereas the College will provide feedback from an ARC College of Experts perspective.
Please provide your initial one-page summaries to Elena Ostrovskaya and myself this week, and we look forward to seeing your full draft proposals by the peer review deadline of January 30th.
Have great break for the festive season, and best wishes for the New Year!
