Director's Message

Dear Colleagues,

Welcome back from a glorious break.

It is my pleasure to congratulate Distinguished Professor Chennupati Jagadish on being appointed Distinguished Research Chair Professor at the Graduate Institute of Photonics and Optoelectronics (GIPO), Department of Electrical Engineering, National Taiwan University. This is very prestigious honour and Jagadish is only 6th such appointment since the establishment of GIPO in 1992.

Congratulations also go the ANU Rocketry Club who, on their inaugural entry this year landed second in the National competition last week.  The image above shows the ANU entry launching from Westmar, Queensland, where the team managed to place second in the flight performance, only 1 ft behind competition winners UQ at 10,130 ft. The team was sponsored by RSEEME, RSC and RSPE together with support from staff across the three Schools.  If you’d like to know more about the club and how to participate see their Facebook page.

The census date for PDRs is looming; 1st May.  Please look at the School intranet for guidelines on how to incorporate your 3-6-9 (https://physics.anu.edu.au/intra/admin/governance/), and the newly released CoS Academic Performance Guidelines below. These guidelines will also be an important part of preparing for promotions this year.

Later today I'll be emailing the School with details about testing our cybersecurity.  There are some important actions to attend to on this issue and I thank you in advance for working with the School Computer Unit in putting in place safeguards.

Finally, please note the EoI for the Associate Director (Infrastructure).  It is open to all Level C academics and above.

Have a great week.

Tim
