Director's Message
Dear Colleagues,
You may remember, three Event Horizons back, I announced the great news about one of our star undergraduates, Marika Niihori, making the Highly Commended list for the Global Undergraduate Awards. It has just been announced she won overall regional winner for Mathematics and Physics section for her 2018 second semester ASC report titled ’Nanowire Light Emitting Diodes'. I am so pleased to see our undergraduates internationally recognised. Marika will now travel to Dublin to attend the international summit in November.
This week's pic shows the John Carver Prize speakers from last Friday. Congratulations to all the presenters and winners (see below).
A gentle reminder to speak with your supervisor about your PDR. Regrettably, fewer than 40% of staff have active PDRs. You can find out about your PDR, and others whom you supervise via ANU Insight. Or, ask your Head as they have recent status lists of PDRs. If you are a supervisor, go to eForms to initiate a new PDR for your staff. I remind all academic staff that 5% contribution to Education is now a required minimum, and will be increasing to 10% in 2020.
I would like to thank Linda Barbour for standing in so ably for Sue over the past three weeks.
Have a good week,
Tim |

Building Facts
The new building has been designed with collaboration in mind with over 40 different types of meeting and collaborations spaces ranging from numerous dozens of quiet two-person spaces, zoom rooms, conference and Board rooms, the split-level tea room all the way to the 250 seat auditorium. The image shows a typical office area in which eight workstations and four offices form a grouping. Similar spaces connect via a corridor which runs along the southern window expanse and the central three storey atrium. |
