Director's Message

Dear Colleagues,

It is good to be back and I’d like to express my thanks for everyone who supported the School Community over a very raw start to this year.  I am very grateful to Professor Hoe Tan for acting so admirably in my absence. No one has been left unaffected and I know we are all conscious of the cumulative effect these events pose.  However people’s concerns manifest please be generous try and accommodate.

Over February the Associate Directors will be drafting Terms of Reference and marshalling the working parties for the implementation of the School Review.   The Event Horizon will have a new entry each week to give a running status of each working party.

Have a good week,

Tim

ARC Peer Review DP21

RSPhys internal peer-review of ARC DP21 grant applications will run this week, with the feedback given by COB Friday the 7th of February. Researchers who have opted in for the peer-review are reminded to submit their draft applications to Research Management Office and/or send them by email directly to Elena Ostrovskaya.

Congratulations

Congratulations to the NLPC team Kirill Koshelev, Liza Melik-Gaykazyan, Sergey Kruk, and Yuri Kivshar on publishing their research on subwavelength dielectric resonators for nonlinear nanophotonics in Science. The paper demonstrates that a nanoscale resonator hosting a special mode with a high quality factor (quasi-bound state in the continuum) can dramatically boost nonlinear effects.
