Director's Message
Dear Colleagues,
I hope you had a pleasant weekend. First up, my congratulations to Distinguished Professor Jagadish on his election to the US National Academy of Engineering for his “contributions to nanotechnology for optoelectronic devices.” He is only the second academic from ANU to be ever be awarded this international honour.
More great news, Janet Zhong has been awarded a Fulbright Future Scholarship. Janet graduated from Honours last year after working with Alexander Poddubny and Yuri Kivshar on "Topology and Interactions in a Qubit Array Coupled to a Waveguide". Congratulations, Janet, you join a very distinguished group from Physics who have become Fulbright Scholars and Fellows.
A reminder to all academics wishing to supervise PhD students that you will have received an email recently from Professor Peter Kanowski, Deputy Dean, Higher Degree Research Supervision. Please don’t lose track of the new requirement to undertake mandatory training, and read the note below from our HDR Team about the workshop in April.
As the undergraduate teaching term kicks off shortly we are as always in need of contributors to the teaching program. Please contact either Siobhan Ryman or Prof Joe Hope in PEC to discuss where you can help out, including tutoring, marking and demonstrating. I remind all academics that a 10% teaching contribution should be detailed in your PDR this year.
If you have an interest in joining a new focus group investigating novel approaches to the rapid early detection and suppression of bushfires please contact Dr Roslyn Prinsley, Executive Officer DVC(RI).
The 2020 Commencement address kicks off at 11am today along University Avenue. Come along and welcome our undergraduate students!
This week’s pic comes from another very successful ICONN Conference in Brisbane last week showing our fabulous Liz Micallef being thanked by conference convenor, Jagadish, for her outstanding efforts. Thank you, Liz, we are all very grateful for the many conferences you made happen through the years.
Have a great week.
