Director's Message
Namaste Colleagues,
I hope you had a pleasant weekend. I’m off enjoying New Delhi and Mumbai this week as I join in Minister Birmingham’s Trade delegation looking to enhance, amongst other things, our research collaborations in India. I’m looking forward to learning more about where we can expand relations with Australia’s 4th largest trade partner, particularly around technology development and our usual solid research partnerships.
All the best to our educators as this term gets into full swing. I would be very grateful to people not normally engaged at this early stage if they could lend a helping hand. This year has been an extremely challenging time and I’m sure all those running courses would welcome any volunteers. Please jump in. Thanks.
Professor Lan Fu has indicated that she would like to step back as Associate Director (HDR) by the middle of this year, in time for the new Centre of Excellent to kickoff. I am incredibly grateful to Lan for her skilful stewardship of the role. Together with our HDR Team and as the inaugural AD(HDR) she has helped develop a strong and inclusive ethic. I look forward to thanking her in the usual fashion and for now she has kindly offered to overlap with the incoming AD(HDR). To this end I open a call for Expressions of Interest in the role. Details can be found HERE and any academic staff member, Level C and above is welcome to apply. The EoI will close 9am 23rd March and our School Manager will act as Returning Officer.
And to end on a highlight, this week’s picie comes from the Multicultural Festival where, on behalf of the Canberra India Council, left to right, Labour MLA Deepak-Raj Gupta, Minister for Cultural Affairs Chris Steel and Chief Minister Andrew Barr celebrated our Distinguished Professor Jagadish for his “outstanding contribution to science, education and service to humanity through science” with the 2020 CIC Service Excellence Award. Well done, Jagadish.
Have a good week,
Tim |
