Director's Message

Dear Colleagues,

I hope you had a chance to enjoy some of the activities around Canberra this weekend, including International Women’s Day on Sunday.  This week’s pic shows the unveiling of the Women’s Wall just outside my office.  The Wall showcases some of the most significant research in our School over the past year. My thanks go to Professor Jodie Bradby for this inspired idea and for curating the first showcase.

This is the final week for those who would like to join one of the four Working Parties arising from the School Review.  Please contact the respective Associate Director directly if you would like to contribute. Places are limited, and if you are not selected then there will be plenty of chances to join in the consultations.

Please note the request below in support of proposed changes at Massey University.  Calls for community support can be very effective, as we saw recently with the wide support that Gerd Schröder-Turk received from academics around the world.

For all the big kids like me, we’re getting a second crane on site next weekend (yay!)  Please note the need to vacate the buildings around the building site over the next weekend (see note right).

As you can see below meriSTEM is growing and welcomes your involvement.  This is a National education phenomenon and is largely fuelled by volunteers.

Enjoy the short week, best regards,

Tim

The College of Science is conducting a review of research management and support services.  This is part of a larger ANU Thematic Review of Research Services with the goals of optimising service for researchers related to grant funds.  The ANU aims to increase the quantity of research income, and diversity of sources of this income, relative to the quantity and sources available. The College of Science Research Committee has prepared a survey that focuses on the Review and also has some more general questions. Your participation in the survey is important - it will help to shape the RSPhys and CoS response to the Review!

Flexibility at workplace helps to balance work and other life responsibilities. It goes beyond working part-time, changing your start or finish time or accessing leave to support outside commitments. It is about where you work, when you work, and how you work. Here at ANU we are fostering and developing the environment in which we can simultaneously excel at our roles while fully participating in our broader lives. Everyone - regardless of gender - is encouraged to speak with their supervisor about ways they may want to work more flexibly.
