Director's Message

Dear Colleagues,

Welcome back after a lovely weekend.  It is a great pleasure to congratulate Distinguished Professor Chennupati Jagadish on recently being elected as a Foreign Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI), the oldest Science Academy of India. Jagadish was one of only four international researchers honoured this year.  He has the additionally rare honour of also being Foreign Fellow in the other two Science and Engineering academies in India.   (photo credit: Stuart Hay, ANU)

Last week the Associate Director (Education), Professor Joe Hoe, released the first round of teaching allocations.  During Department meetings I encourage all research staff to discuss who might lend a hand to the broad spectrum of teaching roles in the Physics Education Centre.  Teaching is a vital part of our research identity.

Professor Elena Ostrovskaya, Associate Director (Research) is currently working with those proposing ARC Discovery Grants in the next round.  If you have not done so already please ensure she is aware of your intentions.

And for next week, I hope you have an enjoyable Australia Day – Reflect, respect, celebrate.

Regards,
Tim

Congratulations to the members of Nonlinear Physics Center for publishing a research paper (the first from the School and even ANU for 2021) in the highly ranked journal Nano Letters (Impact Factor 11.238), as a collaboration with the recently established Centre of Translational Atomaterials at the Swinburne University, the link to the paper is here.
