Director's Message
Dear Colleagues,
It was a great joy to see our Graduates up on stage last week. My congratulations again to the Graduates, seen above, at our morning tea for them last Thursday. (photo credit: H.Punzmann)
Congratulations to Distinguished Professor Susan Scott on her election as Fellow of the International Society on General Relativity and Gravitation - the first Australian to receive this honour.
One of the international rankings of leading academics has just come out listing Distinguished Professor Yuri Kivshar as the 215th in the world for Physics. Congratulations, Yuri. Looking at the Australian rankings you can see many familiar ANU colleagues in the top 100. I note that the top cited Chemist at ANU is still Em/Professor Barry Ninham (DMP), and remains an inspiration for many.
It was great to inaugurate the auditorium last week with a presentation from Dom English, First Assistant Secretary Higher Education, Department of Education, Skills and Employment (DESE). He presented an exciting proposal to host PhD and EMCRs for 1-12 months in paid internships within DESE learning the machinery of government. For details please contact Karolina Kocimska.
Many will know Dom, seen below, from his pivotal role in the NCRIS program.
Have a good week, Tim |
