3MT Congratulations

On Tuesday 4 August 2015 13 RSPE students participated in the School’s annual international Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition showcasing their research. The School thanks all students who participated in the event, with all of them doing a wonderful job. At the end two students were rewarded for their efforts and they are Sherman Wong the Overall Winner, with Lyle Roberts the People’s Choice Winner. We anticipate that all RSPE 3MT participants will proceed to the CMBE-CPMS College heat and encourage everyone to come and support your students in the afternoon of the 18 August at 2pm in the Finkel Lecture Theatre (JCSMR Building).

Baxter 2015

The Department of Theoretical Physics organised the "Baxter 2015: Exactly Solved Models and Beyond" conference held in Palm Cove 19-25 July 2015. The conference was a great success and was in honour of Rodney Baxter’s 75th birthday. The Conference attracted leading scientists from around the globe to pay tribute to Rodney's pioneering work on exactly solved models in statistical mechanics, which continues to inspire remarkable developments in both physics and mathematics.

Funding Opportunities

ARC Industrial Transformation Research Programme (ITRP)
Applications for ARC ITRP Research Hubs and Research Training Centres, to support industry-engaged research and training of HDR students and postdoctoral researchers aligned with the Industry Growth Centres, are expected to open in September and close in November. ANU will provide strategic support to develop competitive proposals via an EOI process similar to the support provided for ARC CoEs. Please complete the two-page EOI template (Hubs, Centres) for both ANU-led and externally-led bids and return to Jan Shaddock by 24 August.

ARC Linkage Projects
Applications for ARC Linkage Projects may open in mid-September and close in mid-November. If you are interested in applying (both ANU-led and externally-led bids) please notify rspe.rm@anu.edu.au

Research Professional – ‘Google for grants’
A senior representative from Research Professional will conduct an interactive and informative seminar on Wednesday 12 August 2015 from 2-4pm at Lecture Theatre 2, Ground Floor, Hedley Bull Centre (Building 130), Garran Road, ANU.  Research Professional is an online database of research funding opportunities and a source of international research policy and practice news. It enables you to search available funding opportunities and to narrow your search to match your specific needs.

ANU – COST Travel Grant Scheme
ANU has exclusively partnered with the Australian Academy of Science to deliver support of up to $7,000 for ANU researchers to participate in EU COST Actions. Participation in COST can lead to engagement in major projects and initiatives such as Horizon 2020 and the European Research Council. Further information is available here (ANU login).

Call for Brazil collaboration proposals
Grants of up to $5,000 are available to support ANU researchers to develop direct researcher-to-researcher collaborations with Brazil. Up to eight grants will be awarded, with the applications closing 28 August 2015. Further information is available here (ANU login).
