Director's Message
Dear Colleagues,
My congratulations to Dr AJ Mitchell (NPAA) on being recognised in 2023 Facility for Rare Isotope Beam (FRIB) Visiting Scholar Program. AJ is one of three international scientists recognised this year for their contributions to breakthrough science achieved in collaboration with this Facility. He is the first Australian to be awarded under this program.
It’s been fantastic to see such a diversity of projects and teams join the inaugural Kinetics competition. If you wish to vote in this ANU-wide, Physics-led innovation program you’ll need to register. This is the last day before the first of two rounds of voting concludes.
Thank you to all those who have refreshed their WHS training modules. Over the past month we have almost trebled the confirmation of our competency to operate in lab environments. As access to labs will be linked to your training records please review your modules and rooms listed. If your training requirements are linked to rooms you no longer need access to please contact WHS and we’ll remove the need for specific training.
The ANU is a foundation partner in the Canberra Innovation Network (CBRIN), an ACT Government initiative which supports our regional innovators through networking, training and investor showcases. Our School will be hosting several networking and investment events over the next few months, which are open for all and will be announced in the EH. In concert with this engagement, the ACT government is currently seeking advice on establishing a Quantum Hub. I will be announcing details of how to engage with this shortly.
Finally, an ANU-wide safety alert has been posted this week. If you are a laser user please read it. To support safe laser usage the School will fund additional glasses required in any lab. Please ask your Head to register the details of any additional laser glasses with the School Manager, James Irwin.
Stay warm, have a good week.
Best, Tim |
