Director's Message

Dear Colleagues,

The week just flew by. I hope you found it as productive I did. Just a few things to note for next week.

As part of the ANU’s Below Zero decarbonisation program the ANU is exploring ways to reduce the emissions associated with business travel. Alongside other forms of community engagement we’re conducting workshops across the campus to understand the role of travel in people’s work, and as a means of finding pathways to a lower-carbon way of operating. The Below Zero Team are seeking 10-15 participants to share their experiences and perspectives. The workshop will take place on campus (date TBD), and run for 3 hours including a break. Catering will be provided. The workshop is a great chance to have your say about travel and emissions reduction approaches, as workshop outcomes will directly inform the measures undertaken by the School of Physics. If you’d like to take part in the workshop please complete this form, or send any questions to rex.martin@anu.edu.au.

PDRs continue to flow in, thank you. I’ve had some helpful discussions about this process.

The top pic this week comes from a 1st year lab class, marshalled by Dr Dige Wang and enthusiastically demonstrated by our PhD students, as always with my many thanks to them. Dige calls Tuesdays, “Team Day”, but for general amusement (and my embarrassment) she decided to rename it “Tim Day” and the demonstrators obliged by copying my standard workwear  – blue jeans and white shirt. It made me smile all day.

Have a great weekend,
Tim
