Director's Message
Dear Colleagues,
A heads up for a few events over the next few weeks. Firstly, the Minister for Science, Hon Ed Husic, announced the Critical Technologies Challenge Program this week. Quantum technologies will be the focus of the first round, closing 2nd July. Looking at the four areas, I’d think there are opportunities in all Departments. On this front, we’re in the final stages of a year-long co-design process with ACT Government to establish a regional “quantum hub” which no doubt will be augmented by our recent success in joining Quantum Australia, the organisation leading the Australian Quantum Growth Centre, again out of Husic’s office. By mid-year there will be loads to discuss around the funds available to the School. It’s a great time to be doing quantum physics!
The AIP is holding a Physics Careers event next Wednesday 29 May 2024, from 6.30-8.30pm on Level 4. There will be a live stream from national employers, followed by presentations from local employers and networking.
You will have seen an email from the Equity & Diversity committee about Neurodiversity awareness on 14th June. The workshop has limited places so please register early.
Above, a photo which appeared earlier in On Campus showing some of the restoration planting in the meadow between Parkes Way and the new building. The plan is to create a corridor for bird life connecting Black Mountain to the Acton peninsula (Photo credit: Elaine Obran/ANU).
Hope you have a relaxing long weekend. Tim |
