Director's Message
Dear Colleagues,
I hope everyone has had a good week.
I would like to start by thanking all those who have focussed on completing the few remaining risk assessments. I’m so pleased to report that as of today we have completed 97.5% of our training requirements. This is outstandingly high, thank you all for taking safety so seriously.
Last week I had the pleasure of attending the 2024 Korean-Australian Quantum Forum held in our school. The day of science was sponsored by the Korean Institute of Science and Technology and the Korean Embassy. Mr. Jimin Kim, Minister of the Korean Embassy opened the event is seen above, on my left. I am particularly grateful to and congratulate the primary organisers; Dr. Yong-su Kim (Quantum Information Society of Korea, on my right), Dr Jie (Sophie) Zhao (DQST, far right front row) and Dr Duk Choi (DQST, on Dr Kim’s right).
Hope you have a relaxing weekend. Tim |

College of Science - 'Leading A Research Group' Series
Leading a research group brings with it many challenges, and academic staff receive little, if any training in this critical aspect of their job. The College is presenting a series of informal conversations with successful research group leaders from across the College, about the approaches that they take to running their own groups.
These sessions will offer a valuable opportunity for early and mid-career academics who are leading their own research groups to gain insights into the strategies used by some of the College’s successful research leaders.
In the third and final session of the series (Wednesday, 13 November from 12.00pm), Kiaran Kirk will be in conversation with Professor Naomi McClure-Griffiths (RSAA) and Professor Andy Hogg (RSES).
Session 3 Date: Wednesday, 13 November Time: 12.00pm – 1.30pm Location: Slatyer Seminar Room » read more
