Director's Message
Dear Colleagues,
It is wonderful to announce that A/Prof Vanessa Robins will be taking on the role of Associate Director HDR. Thank you to Prof Vince Craig for doing such an outstanding job in the role, and we will arrange a morning tea to thank Vince properly in the coming weeks.
Talking of morning teas, it was lovely to see so many of you at the International Women's Day event last Wednesday. Thank you to everyone who came along and made it such a nice occasion and to James who picked up the bakery items, to Nikki who arranged the cake and to Sue and all who helped with the event. A photo below.
A quick but important reminder for all staff: Step 1 of the ANU Focus performance and development cycle, Goal Setting, is due to be completed by the end of March. If you haven't yet had a chance to sit down with your supervisor to set your goals for the year, now is the time. More information can be found here.
Those with an interest in the intersections between art and science might enjoy a floor talk at the ANU School of Art and Design Gallery on Tuesday 24th March from 1pm. Artist Harriet Schwarzrock will speak about her PhD research, which spans blown glass, neon fabrication, and plasma physics. Her glass forms illuminate through the presence and touch of a viewer, making visible the kinds of electromagnetic relationships that will feel familiar to many of us. The exhibition runs until 27th March and is also open on ANU Open Day on Saturday 28th March. Details can be found here.
Finally, I would particularly encourage our students and early and mid-career researchers to send in submissions for the research highlight. Every publication represents so much hard work, and it is a pleasure to share those stories with the school. Submissions can be made here, or feel free to email me directly.
Jodie

IT Service Desk Changes
As part of the change to the new ANU Connect service desk portal there is a push to turn off the email to ticket gateways. You are encouraged to start using the portal to generate support tickets.
The following are a couple of tips that can ease this process.
- Filter to "Requests" after selecting a topic or performing a search to hide the knowledge base articles and show only the available request forms.
- If a request is for is a lab or self-managed machine and needs local IT support rather than the central service desk you can start your request with "attn Research IT Support" to speed up the triaging process.
