RSAA Sustainability Update

Before the solar rollout (<2020), our net electricity consumption across Woolley, Duffield, AITC and CSO was 3075kWh per day. In the year to June, we averaged 2266kWh.

SSO Update

In the late afternoon of 13 April, one of the studs holding the lower floor to the upper of the AAT Cassegrain cage was found to have cracked. This left the  telescope unusable overnight for fear of more studs coming loose or braking. The next day, the mechanical team rushed to machine a new stud and added safety chains to keep the AAT operational while a permanent solution could be found. Solution found, implemented and completed, all within schedule.

Outreach Update

The mostly clear skies this month has meant that despite late starts, we’ve been able to fit lots of private groups in for sessions.  We had about 80 requests alone during the school holiday period at the beginning of the month!
